What Ofsted said about Blossomfield Infant and Nursery School
Overview
Blossomfield Infant and Nursery School is described as a “welcoming school” where pupils “love attending” and feel safe. The inspection judged overall effectiveness, the quality of education, behaviour, personal development, and leadership as “Good”. While the school fosters a positive culture and supports pupils with special educational needs well, inconsistencies in teaching quality hinder some pupils’ progress.
Strengths
- Pupils are “polite and well-mannered”, showing “tolerance of others” and understanding how to keep themselves safe.
- The school is “inclusive”, with all pupils, including those with SEND, “fully involved in school life” and well supported.
- Leaders provide “experiences beyond the classroom”, such as a golf festival and choir, allowing pupils to “blossom at Blossomfield”.
- In mathematics and music, lessons are “well sequenced” with appropriate resources, enabling pupils to learn key concepts effectively.
- Staff are “proud to work” at the school, and leaders are “mindful of their workload”.
Areas to improve
- Leaders must ensure consistent phonics teaching and that all staff receive training for the new scheme, as current inconsistencies mean some pupils do not read “as fluently as they could”.
- Leaders need to identify important content and precise learning steps across all subjects, as curriculum sequencing is not yet consistent outside of mathematics and music.
- Leaders should support teachers in developing subject knowledge in weaker areas so they can “model content to pupils accurately” using correct language and resources.
Safeguarding
The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective”, with leaders ensuring staff are well trained, concerns are reported and followed up promptly, and vulnerable pupils are supported through programmes like the ‘holiday activity and food programme’.
