Bryn Bach Primary School

Overview

Bryn Bach County Primary School is described as a "caring and welcoming environment" where pupils feel "happy and safe" and valued. The new senior leadership team has a "clear vision" and has already improved reading provision and well-being strategies. However, while teaching is generally appropriate, the report notes that skills are not always developed systematically.

Strengths

• Pupils enjoy school, behave well, and have "positive attitudes to school life."
• Relationships between staff and pupils are "positive and supportive."
• Extra-curricular activities effectively develop "life skills and well-being."
• Leaders use a "wide range of information" for self-evaluation, including assessment data and learning walks.
• Recent improvements have been made to the teaching of reading and support for pupil well-being.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must "sharpen self-evaluation" so monitoring identifies important teaching issues, such as planning for writing and Welsh.
• Standards of writing need improvement, as pupils do not always apply skills "purposefully."
• Pupils’ Welsh oracy skills require development.
• Learning experiences must ensure skills are developed "systematically" to meet all pupils’ needs.

Safeguarding

The report states that staff ensure the "well-being of pupils is a high priority," resulting in pupils feeling "happy and safe" and valued within the school community.
