Bunscoil an Iúir

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning most staff did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Questionnaire responses from parents and staff were “mostly positive,” indicating “high levels of satisfaction” and “effective working relationships.”
• Rang 6 children spoke “enthusiastically” about their learning experiences and the “caring, supportive working relationships” with staff and peers.
• Pupils reported “good opportunities to develop their leadership roles” through the Eco-Council, School Council, and the ‘Cairde sa Chlós’ initiative.
• Children expressed “enjoyment of the Irish language” and noted “improved self-esteem” due to their bilingualism.

Areas to improve

• The employing authority, governors, and staff must “plan for, and manage, issues related to the sustainability of the school provision and school budget” to address current and future needs.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and that children “feel safe in school,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
