Bunscoil An Tsleibhe Dhuibh

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, as staff and leadership refused to co-operate with the evaluation. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) could not fully assess the quality of education or the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.”

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils spoke “confidently, fluently and with pride” about their ability to speak two languages.
• Children reported a “wide range of learning and extra-curricular experiences,” particularly appreciating sporting, literacy, and arts opportunities.
• Pupils stated they feel safe in school and are aware of procedures for reporting safety or welfare concerns.
• Children demonstrated secure knowledge regarding how to “keep safe online.”

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching within classrooms due to non-co-operation.
• The inspection could not assess the extent to which the school demonstrates capacity for improvement through self-evaluation and planning.
• The school is designated as a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” but notes the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
