Caradog Primary School

Overview

Caradog Primary is described as a “caring school” where pupils enjoy learning and demonstrate strong behaviour and wellbeing. The report highlights that nearly all pupils make good progress in skills and knowledge, supported by a new headteacher who has quickly established a “strong team ethos” among staff.

Strengths

• Pupils’ “behaviour and wellbeing is a particular strength,” with nearly all displaying very good manners and eagerness to learn.
• The school’s “nurture provision is very strong,” helping pupils develop as “rounded citizens.”
• Staff deliver “interesting learning experiences” that engage most pupils, maintaining high expectations and positive relationships.
• Support for literacy skills is strong, with frequent opportunities for pupils to apply these skills across the curriculum.
• Leaders place pupils’ interests at the heart of their work, leading to many pupils achieving well by the end of key stage 2.

Areas to improve

• Plan “specific and measurable actions” to support school improvement, as current actions are not specific enough.
• Ensure pupils receive the “right level of challenge” and better understand their own progress and next steps.
• Provide regular opportunities for pupils to apply their numeracy skills across the curriculum, which are currently less well developed than literacy.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern.”
