Carrowdore Primary School

Overview

The inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, with teachers refusing to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• A group of Year 6 children spoke “enthusiastically about their enjoyment of a range of learning experiences across the curriculum.”
• Children articulated clearly how they play a role in “decision- making through, for example, the School- and Eco-councils.”
• Pupils highlighted the “supportive, friendly ethos in their school.”
• The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”
• Children reported that they “feel safe in school and know what to do if they have any concerns about their well-being.”

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate outcomes for learners, quality of provision, or leadership and management due to the lack of cooperation.
• The playground is “not fully enclosed by fencing,” as noted in the health and safety appendix.

Safeguarding

The report states that while arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements for safeguarding in the school” owing to the industrial action.
