Carterhatch Infant School

Overview

Carterhatch Infant School continues to be a good school, where pupils are happy and embrace values such as perseverance and kindness. Leaders have carefully considered the curriculum, offering a wide range of opportunities that broaden pupils’ experiences through local visits and cultural activities.

Strengths

• Pupils behave well, move around the school calmly, and listen to instructions, resulting in no low-level disruption.
• The mathematics curriculum is systematic, with teachers using strong subject knowledge to revisit learning and address gaps.
• Staff provide effective support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, making suitable adaptations to lessons.
• Leaders support staff well-being and workload, ensuring priorities for improvement are met.
• Pupils enjoy enriching activities, such as forest school and visits to places of worship, fostering positive attitudes to learning.

Areas to improve

• The school must continue to embed the new phonics scheme to enable all pupils to reach reading fluency and comprehension.
• The school should continue to work with families to improve attendance, as some pupils miss too much school and fall behind.
