Undersubscribed schools rated Good or Outstanding
These schools didn't fill on first preference in the latest admissions year, despite an Ofsted rating of Good or Outstanding — worth a look if you're chasing the same handful of famous names everyone else applies to.
How places are allocated in Enfield
Primary schools: Most schools are primarily distance-based; a minority (e.g. Chace Community) have an explicit 'priority zone' catchment criterion above distance — varies by individual school. (source)
Most schools use the local authority's default scheme rather than a school-specific catchment map — see each school's page for its own designated/catchment area where one is published.
Enfield entrance test format
The Latymer School's test has a two-part structure sat on one exam day: 1. GL Assessment multiple-choice papers in maths and verbal reasoning (answers on separate sheets). 2. An English paper set by the school itself. The maths and verbal reasoning papers are marked first; only the top-scoring candidates (historically around 650) have their English paper marked, and offers go to the top scorers overall (historically 192 places) based on total score. Registration is direct with the school, historically mid-March to early June of Year 5, with test days in the first week of September of Year 6 and results in mid-October.

Out-of-area applications
Enfield's only grammar school is The Latymer School (mixed, Edmonton). It runs its own entrance test — registration is direct with the school (historically mid-March to early June of Year 5), with test days in early September of Year 6. Applicants from outside Enfield are accepted — the school draws from across north London and Hertfordshire — but check the current admissions policy for any residence or distance criteria applied within the oversubscription rules. Apply via your home LA's Common Application Form by 31 October; results arrive in mid-October, in time to inform your choices.
