Cleeve Prior CofE (Controlled) Primary School

Overview

Cleeve Prior CofE Primary School is described as a "small, friendly and welcoming place" where pupils are happy and have a "deep sense of belonging." While the quality of education, behaviour, and personal development are rated as Good, leadership and management require improvement due to recent instability and insufficient oversight by the governing body.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve well academically, with teachers using a "well-designed curriculum" to pinpoint individual needs, resulting in strong progress in end-of-key-stage assessments.
• Reading is a particular strength; the school focuses effectively on those facing challenges, helping previously behind pupils to "catch up," while older pupils read "widely and with enthusiasm."
• Relationships are excellent, with pupils feeling safe and confident. Bullying "seldom happens," and pupils have "absolute confidence in adults" to resolve issues.
• Personal development is fostered through community involvement, such as charity fundraising and visits to places of worship, which teach pupils to be "tolerant of the beliefs of others."

Areas to improve

• The governing body must take swift action to ensure leadership is "fully effective" and hold leaders to account for adhering to school systems and procedures.
• Governors need to address past instances where systems, such as keeping attendance registers accurately, were "not followed well enough" due to a lack of oversight.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
