Overview

Comper Nursery School continues to be a good school, where children feel happy and safe. Staff build strong, caring relationships and provide consistently positive support, helping children develop well academically and pastorally. Parents are united in their praise, valuing the induction arrangements that help children settle quickly into nursery routines.

Strengths

• Staff embed the school’s values of ‘love, curiosity, courage and aspiration’ across the curriculum, fostering high levels of confidence and independence.
• The curriculum has a strong focus on communication, language and literacy, with staff using songs, rhymes and stimulating story times to reinforce vocabulary.
• Adults effectively support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to make capable progress and participate alongside peers.
• Children behave well, following simple rules and routines willingly, which ensures a ‘calm and safe learning environment’.
• Staff feel valued and supported by leaders, who carefully consider workload and well-being.

Areas to improve

• A few staff lack secure knowledge and teaching skills, meaning some misconceptions go uncorrected and some pupils do not always learn as well as they could.
• The school should ensure that all staff have the knowledge and skills needed to deliver the curriculum consistently well.
