Overview

Wheatley Nursery School continues to be a good school, providing a happy and confident environment for children. Leaders have developed an effective curriculum that sets challenging end points, resulting in children achieving well, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The school benefits from strong staff relationships and overwhelming parental support.

Strengths

• Behaviour is a strength, with children being "kind to each other" and expressing thoughts appropriately.
• Leaders have created an "effective curriculum" that identifies specific knowledge and key vocabulary for all children.
• Communication and language are promoted effectively, helping children with lower starting points develop "secure language skills quickly."
• Staff use the outside area "highly effectively," facilitating positive play and sharing among children.

Areas to improve

• The curriculum is "not consistently implemented as effectively as it could be," meaning not all children are achieving as well as they could.
• Some newer aspects of the curriculum, particularly regarding how specific knowledge and vocabulary are developed through questioning, are "not yet fully implemented by all staff."

Safeguarding
