CORYTON PRIMARY

Overview

Pupils at Coryton Primary School enjoy coming to school and participate with "great enthusiasm," supported by staff who ensure they are "happy and safe." The school provides strong support for well-being and addresses individual needs sensitively, particularly for families facing deprivation. However, the curriculum lacks clear progression, and leadership responsibilities are not yet distributed effectively.

Strengths

• Pupils "enjoy coming to school" and engage with lessons and activities with "great enthusiasm."
• Staff "know their pupils well" and work effectively to ensure they are "happy and safe."
• The school’s support for pupils’ well-being is "strong," successfully catering for individual needs and addressing worries.
• Teachers plan "engaging learning activities" that capture pupils' interest, often involving them in the planning process.
• Pupils generally make "good progress" in numeracy and creative skills.

Areas to improve

• Leadership responsibilities are not "distributed equally or effectively enough," with too many areas overseen by the headteacher.
• Teaching activities do not always focus clearly on "the next steps in pupils’ learning," and the curriculum does not ensure pupils build effectively on previous learning.
• Standards in Welsh are underdeveloped, as pupils’ ability to understand and use the language is "underdeveloped."

Safeguarding

Staff work effectively to ensure that pupils are "happy and safe when they are at school," with strong support for well-being and individual needs.
