RADYR PRIMARY SCHOOL

Overview

Radyr Primary School benefits from "strong and effective leadership" and provides a "safe, happy and caring learning environment." The inspection found that pupils’ behaviour is "exemplary" and nearly all make "good and, at times, very good progress," with particularly strong communication skills.

Strengths

• Leaders and governors work "purposefully" and have developed a "very supportive and hardworking staff team."
• Pupils’ "communication skills are particularly strong," with "very good" oracy and high standards in reading and writing.
• Teachers provide "innovative and stimulating learning opportunities," including "immersion days" that engage pupils effectively.
• Pupils with additional learning needs receive "very good support" and achieve well in relation to their targets.
• ICT skills are "good across the school," with pupils understanding online safety and using technology confidently.

Areas to improve

• Develop pupils’ ability to apply numeracy skills in work across the curriculum, as this is "less well planned."
• Improve pupils’ Welsh language skills, particularly in key stage 2 where they do not extend skills well enough.
• Ensure a "consistent approach to setting individual pupil targets for improvement" across the school, particularly for numeracy.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils "meet requirements and give no cause for concern."
