Craig yr Hesg Primary School

Overview

The report describes Craig-Yr-Hesg Primary School as an "inclusive community with a caring team of staff" where pupils feel safe and valued. However, it states that management processes are "not strong enough" and instability has led to "too much variability in the quality of teaching," resulting in underdeveloped writing skills and inconsistent progress for less able pupils.

Strengths

• Staff support pupils’ wellbeing successfully, creating an environment where pupils feel "safe, well cared for and valued."
• Many pupils become "capable mathematicians who enjoy solving problems" and develop effective speaking and listening skills.
• The school has an "inclusive, caring and supportive ethos" with effective arrangements for safeguarding and additional learning needs.
• Strong relationships with parents are maintained through various communication channels, and pupils benefit from pupil-led groups like the 'eco warriors'.

Areas to improve

• Establish stable leadership and teaching teams to reduce variability in teaching quality.
• Raise standards in writing, as pupils’ ability to express ideas through extended writing is "limited."
• Improve monitoring processes and ensure grouping arrangements enable pupils of all abilities to make effective progress.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils meet requirements and give no cause for concern."
