Crumlin High Level Primary

Overview

The report states that it is "too early to judge the effectiveness" of new leadership arrangements following a recent headteacher appointment. While an "inclusive atmosphere" exists where pupils behave impeccably and enjoy school, leaders have not yet demonstrated they can "secure improvements to the quality of teaching and learning." Consequently, the inspectorate has placed the school in "special measures."

Strengths

• Pupils interact very well with adults and peers, displaying a "positive culture of teamwork" and an "inclusive atmosphere."
• Nearly all pupils "behave impeccably," are courteous, and are "eager to contribute to their own learning."
• Pupils make "good progress" in speaking, listening, reading, and physical skills, using these effectively across the curriculum.
• Staff encourage pupils to take responsibility for their well-being, helping them build confidence and self-esteem.
• The deputy headteacher previously shared responsibilities effectively, contributing to a progressive ethos where staff feel valued.

Areas to improve

• Establish and maintain effective leadership and governance to support school improvements.
• Improve the quality of teaching and assessment practices across the school.
• Improve pupils’ extended writing, numeracy, and Welsh oracy skills, which are not developing well enough.
