Overview

Most pupils at Crynallt Primary enjoy attending school, behaving well and feeling safe, secure and well cared for. They make good progress in their learning and develop positive attitudes to reading and outdoor work. The well-being of all pupils is central to the school’s work, supported by positive relationships between staff, pupils and families.

Strengths

• Pupils feel safe, secure and well cared for, trusting that adults will always support them.
• Staff provide high levels of care, support and guidance, creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued.
• Pupils’ ability to speak Welsh is a strength across the school, following improved staff understanding of the language.
• The acting headteacher shows considerate and effective leadership, strengthening staff development to implement a real and engaging curriculum.
• Pupils in the Specialist Learning Centre enjoy a bespoke curriculum and make suitable progress against their targets.

Areas to improve

• Strengthen self-evaluation processes and focus more specifically on the impact of teaching on learning.
• Provide more opportunities for pupils to develop as independent learners, as they do not generally have sufficient influence over their own learning.
• Create more opportunities for pupils to develop their numeracy skills across the curriculum, as they do not use these skills often enough or as well as they could.
