Dovers Green School

Overview

Dovers Green School is described as a “happy, safe and nurturing environment” where staff hold “high expectations” for all pupils. The report highlights that the school has “high ambition” and fosters an inclusive culture where every child is valued, resulting in strong achievement across the board.

Strengths

• Pupils’ behaviour is “exemplary,” with children showing “kindness and acceptance” towards one another from an early age.
• The early years curriculum is “extremely well considered,” providing ample opportunities for children to deepen social, communication, and numerical skills.
• Staff “skilfully adapt instructions” to ensure pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) follow similar learning to their peers, building confidence and knowledge.
• Reading is a clear priority, with children systematically taught sounds to become “fluent and independent readers,” supported by well-matched books and regular checks.
• Staff are “well motivated” and appreciate that leaders are “considerate of their workload and well-being,” contributing to a positive school culture.

Areas to improve

• In a few subjects, the curriculum is “not planned precisely enough,” leading to variability in teaching and some pupils failing to remember key knowledge. Leaders must ensure curriculum planning across all subjects matches the precision of the strongest areas.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
