Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with the process. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate classroom teaching or fully assess safeguarding arrangements, meaning it could not provide assurance on the overall quality of education.

Strengths

• The senior leadership team demonstrates a "strong commitment to whole-school improvement," resulting in "robust and systematic tracking, monitoring and evaluation processes."
• Academic outcomes at GCSE are "well above the Northern Ireland average," with a seventeen percentage point increase in pupils achieving five or more grades A*–C since the previous inspection.
• The school has successfully "clos[ed] the gap between the achievement for boys and girls at GCSE" through targeted interventions.
• Post-16 results in 2019 were "above the NI average," following adaptations to provide a "pupil-centred and flexible, tailored-options process."
• Pupils spoke confidently about the positive impact of target-setting and reported "positive working relationships fostered by all of the staff."
