Drury Primary School

Overview

Drury Primary School is described as a “happy and caring community” where pupils feel safe and valued. While teaching experiences and pupil wellbeing are rated as “Good”, standards and leadership are judged as “Adequate and needs improvement” due to underdeveloped writing skills and insufficient strategic direction.

Strengths

• Pupils display “positive attitudes to learning” and behave well, feeling “safe and happy” in a supportive environment.
• Staff plan “stimulating and engaging” activities, effectively involving pupils in planning their own learning and fostering independence.
• Most pupils make good progress in mathematics, ICT, and Welsh, with strong foundations in numeracy and problem-solving.
• Provision for pupils with additional learning needs is “good”, with effective monitoring and clear exit criteria for support.

Areas to improve

• Raise standards in writing, as many pupils’ writing is “underdeveloped” and lacks ambitious vocabulary or varied sentence structures.
• Ensure teaching consistently challenges all pupils, particularly the more able, who “do not achieve as well as they could”.
• Ensure leaders and governors provide clearer strategic direction and focus robustly on improving outcomes for all pupils.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern”.
