East Anstey Primary School

Overview

East Anstey Primary School is a small rural community school where pupils are described as proud and happy. The report states that the school has "high expectations" which pupils consistently meet, resulting in a "friendly community" where relationships are "warm and supportive." Parents are "overwhelmingly positive," with all respondents indicating they would recommend the school.

Strengths

• Pupils behave well, playing "harmoniously" in the playground and listening effectively in class.
• The curriculum in mathematics and English is "sequenced in a sensible order," with staff receiving "comprehensive phonics training" to teach with precision.
• Reading is a "top priority," ensuring most pupils use phonics knowledge "confidently" by the end of Year 1.
• Assessment is used well to identify gaps, and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are "included in all aspects of school life."
• The school promotes wider development, including "economic understanding" and awareness of "fundamental British values."

Areas to improve

• The school has not identified with "enough precision" the small steps of knowledge in a small number of wider curriculum subjects, leading to gaps in learning.
• Staff in some subjects lack the "depth of subject knowledge they need," meaning the curriculum is not delivered as consistently well as in other areas.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
