Eastwick Infant School

Overview

Eastwick Infant School continues to be a good school, where pupils are described as ‘ready for everything’. The institution fosters a highly inclusive environment with strong relationships, ensuring all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), are well-prepared for the next steps in their education.

Strengths

• The curriculum is ‘ambitious and suitable for all pupils’, with a clear focus on communication and language in the early years.
• ‘The teaching of early reading is strong’, with a securely embedded phonics programme and effective support for those needing extra help.
• Pupils with SEND are ‘supported expertly to access the same curriculum and opportunities as their peers’, including those in the ‘Rainbow’ provision.
• Behaviour is ‘typically calm’, and pupils live out values of ‘respect, responsibility, care and honesty’ well.
• Trustees and the local governing body offer ‘strong support and challenge’, sharing a high ambition for all pupils.

Areas to improve

• The school should refine the curriculum in foundation subjects so that pupils ‘learn even more deeply’.
• Leaders need to ‘identify the content of the curriculum with greater precision’ in some aspects of the wider curriculum.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
