Edith Cadbury Nursery School

Overview

This ungraded inspection found that "aspects of the school’s work may not be as strong as at the time of the previous inspection," triggering a future graded inspection. While the nursery provides a "warm and friendly welcome" where children are "happy and confident," significant gaps exist in supporting children with special educational needs and monitoring improvement priorities.

Strengths

• Children settle quickly in a "calm and purposeful" environment where staff relationships are "respectful and positive."
• The school offers an "ambitious curriculum" with effective outdoor provision, including a "wooded outdoor provision and nature area."
• Staff support children’s independence and character development, creating "moments of awe and wonder" through exploration.
• Parents appreciate the school’s "open-door approach" and the support offered to families.

Areas to improve

• Ensure specific support for children with SEND is "identified and communicated to all staff" so they can provide appropriate learning opportunities.
• Embed communication and language development in everyday practice by encouraging staff to use "open-ended questions" to extend children’s talk.
• Implement "closer oversight" of school improvement actions to determine precisely "whether the areas it has chosen to develop are improving or not."

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
