Edwardsville Primary School

Overview

The report describes a school where pupils feel “happy and safe” and make “good progress” in literacy, numeracy, and ICT. While wellbeing and standards are judged as “Good,” teaching and leadership are rated “Adequate and needs improvement” due to inconsistent practice and unclear strategic focus.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “strong oracy skills” and read with “increasing confidence” and accuracy.
• “Robust tracking systems” enable effective support for pupils with additional learning needs, who make “strong progress.”
• Staff maintain “strong working relationships” with pupils based on “mutual respect.”
• The school fosters a “happy, caring community” with high attendance and positive attitudes towards learning.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must operate “more strategically” and focus “more sharply on pupils’ standards.”
• The “quality of teaching” requires improvement to ensure consistency and reflect best practice across all classes.
• Staff must “implement the principles of the foundation phase fully” and increase opportunities for pupils to shape their own learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern.”
