Euston Street Primary School

Overview

This Sustaining Improvement Inspection was conducted during industrial action involving non-cooperation by teaching staff. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.”

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils spoke positively about opportunities to develop leadership skills through the “digital leaders’ programme” and councils.
• Children reported that they “feel happy and safe in school.”
• Pupils demonstrated knowledge of “what to do and who to talk to if they are concerned about their safety or well-being.”
• The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure its current review of policies “reflect DE requirements” for safeguarding.
• The school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice” due to the inability to assess educational quality.

Safeguarding

The report states that while arrangements broadly reflect Department of Education guidance and pupils feel safe, the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements for safeguarding in the school” owing to the industrial action.
