Nettlefield Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was conducted during industrial action involving non-cooperation by teaching staff. Consequently, the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the school’s capacity for improvement or the quality of education provided. The report concludes that the inspectorate cannot assure parents or stakeholders of the quality of education due to these constraints.

Strengths

• The school development plan identifies "appropriate priorities for improvement."
• "Very good links have been established with businesses and other external support agencies" to enhance ICT provision and staff development.
• A small group of older children engage with ICT applications, including robotics and coding, with "growing confidence."
• ICT development provides opportunities for children to develop "resilience, perseverance and problem-solving skills."
• Curriculum coordinators are described as "knowledgeable and focused clearly on continuous improvement."

Areas to improve

• Action plans are of "variable quality," with a number of targets that are "not sufficiently measurable."
• The ETI was unable to evaluate the development of children’s writing or the full outworking of safeguarding arrangements due to the industrial action.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements "reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education," and children report feeling safe, though the ETI could not fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements.
