Filton Avenue Nursery School

Overview

Filton Avenue Nursery School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at its previous inspection, which judged it outstanding for overall effectiveness. The report describes a friendly and inclusive environment where children are excited by activities and achieve well due to staff who know them ‘inside-out’.

Strengths

• Leadership is ‘highly effective’, with staff and governors showing passion to give every child a ‘stimulating education’.
• Children develop into ‘independent learners’ in a harmonious environment, demonstrating tolerance and celebrating cultural differences.
• Communication is central to the curriculum, with staff effectively developing vocabulary and using signs to support those who need it.
• Provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is strong, with needs identified quickly and appropriate support put in place.
• Staff use checks on learning well to identify gaps and plan ‘timely and suitable next steps’.

Areas to improve

• Some staff are not as proficient at delivering the curriculum as intended, meaning children’s knowledge is not always as well developed as it could be.
• Opportunities for children to practise what they have previously learnt during play are not always fully exploited, preventing some from securing their learning effectively.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
