Golftyn CP School

Overview

Leaders and staff provide a "safe and stimulating environment" where pupils’ well-being and learning are central, fostering a strong sense of pride and belonging. While most pupils make good progress and behaviour is "exemplary," the report notes that provision does not always ensure pupils achieve the progress they could in key areas, particularly regarding teaching effectiveness and attendance.

Strengths

• Pupils feel a "firm sense of pride and belonging" and display "exemplary" behaviour with courteous interactions.
• The curriculum is "broad and engages pupils effectively," helping them focus well on their learning.
• Most pupils, including those with additional learning needs, make "effective progress" towards their learning goals.
• Leaders have developed an "effective system for the assessment of all pupils" to track progress as they move through the school.
• Parents are "highly appreciative" of the strong, supportive care their children receive.

Areas to improve

• Teaching in mathematics is "not always effective enough," limiting pupils’ progress, and staff need better understanding of how to teach it.
• Teachers often "over-direct learning" and do not sufficiently challenge pupils, with the pace of teaching being "too slow."
• Written feedback is "mainly celebratory" and lacks the guidance needed for pupils to improve their work.

Safeguarding

Leaders, staff and governors provide a "safe and stimulating environment" for pupils, placing well-being at the heart of the school’s work.
