Grange Primary School

Overview

The inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teaching staff did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure... of the quality of education being provided” and could not fully evaluate outcomes, provision, or leadership. Despite these limitations, the report notes positive feedback from questionnaires and specific observations of pupil engagement.

Strengths

• Questionnaire responses from children, parents, and staff were “wholly positive regarding the life and work of the school.”
• Year 7 children “read with fluency and accuracy” and demonstrated a “good understanding of the texts they read.”
• Pupils spoke with “enthusiasm and pride” about their school, active learning approaches, and roles such as playground mentors.
• The board of governors possesses a “very good range of skills and expertise” and is “actively involved in all aspects of school life.”

Areas to improve

• The school development plan’s action plans “lack... clarity regarding the key personnel responsible for monitoring and reviewing the progress made.”
• Health and safety issues include “no toilet facilities in the year 5 mobile classroom” and a need to review site access arrangements.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
