GUILSFIELD C.P. SCHOOL

Overview

Guilsfield Primary is described as a "happy school" where pupils and staff feel valued, with strong social and emotional support. However, the report highlights that curriculum planning and teaching quality are inconsistent, preventing pupils from always achieving their potential.

Strengths

• Pupils settle quickly, showing "genuine pride in their work" and being "very kind and caring to one another."
• Older pupils actively support younger ones, and nearly all take on leadership roles with "maturity and diligence."
• Staff meet pupils’ social and emotional needs well, dealing with concerns "thoughtfully, appropriately and in a timely manner."
• Most pupils make "appropriate progress as learners" and develop as confident individuals.

Areas to improve

• Leaders do not sufficiently consider the local context or pupils’ interests in curriculum planning, failing to provide "relevant and authentic learning experiences."
• Teachers do not always plan carefully enough to meet all learners' needs or provide the "right level of challenge," leading to inconsistent progress.
• Monitoring of provision does not focus well enough on pupils’ progress, and governors do not take an active role in evaluation.

Safeguarding

The report recommends strengthening arrangements to monitor pupils’ use of shared community spaces.
