Strengths

• Staff create a “calm and respectful environment” where learners show “high levels of respect” and work well together.
• Learners benefit from community visits and work placements that help them become “confident to use local community and leisure services”.
• Leaders use “thorough quality assurance activities” to understand strengths and weaknesses, providing a “firm foundation” for improvement.
• The catering pathway features “industry standard” equipment and strong employer involvement in curriculum planning.
• Safeguarding arrangements are “effective”, with learners feeling safe and confident to report concerns.

Areas to improve

• Tutors must use assessment information to “consistently plan and teach a curriculum that meets learners’ individual needs”, as progress is currently inconsistent.
• Leaders need to tailor the English and mathematics curriculum sufficiently so that more learners achieve these qualifications.
• Staff should provide detailed, consistent feedback rather than relying on learners to remember verbal instructions, ensuring work shows “significant improvement over time”.
