Hannah More Infant School

Overview

Hannah More Infant School continues to be a good school, where pupils enjoy their education and follow the motto of ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’. Leaders prioritise pupil well-being and maintain high expectations, resulting in a culture of tolerance, respect, and very little low-level disruption. The school provides an ambitious curriculum with a strong focus on reading and mathematics, supported by effective teaching and extra-curricular opportunities.

Strengths

• Pupils are safe, know how to behave well, and have trusted adults to turn to when issues arise.
• Reading is a priority, with carefully planned phonics and immediate intervention for misunderstandings.
• Pupils are confident in mathematics, gaining a secure grasp of number value through daily routines.
• Teaching is well-planned for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), with regular strategy reviews.
• Teachers provide effective assessment and feedback, helping pupils correct misconceptions quickly.

Areas to improve

• Some pupils do not remember key curriculum content over time, especially within foundation subjects. Leaders should ensure that teachers clarify and embed concepts so pupils can remember them better in the longer term.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff receiving annual training and knowing how to identify and report concerns about vulnerable pupils.
