Heathfield Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Heathfield Primary School in June 2025, finding that the school demonstrates “good” performance in both “Learning, teaching and assessment” and “Raising attainment and achievement.” The report highlights a school where children are “proud of their school” and engage well in their learning, supported by staff who are “ambitious for themselves and for children.” Inspectors expressed confidence that the school has the capacity to continue improving, meaning no further visits will be made in connection with this inspection.

Strengths

• “Positive relationships between staff and children built on effective supportive and nurturing approaches.”
• Effective collaboration by the headteacher and staff through “professional learning to improve learning and teaching,” particularly impacting attainment in reading.
• “Strong approaches to identifying and supporting any barriers to children’s learning,” ensuring children are well supported to progress.
• “High-quality learning and teaching” within the Extended Learning Facility, where staff help children “manage and regulate their own behaviours.”

Areas to improve

• Continue to “strengthen approaches to assessment to inform planning” to support all children in making the best possible progress.
• “Review and develop consistent approaches to tracking children’s progress” to ensure attainment builds at all stages.
• “Continue to increase inclusive experiences” to support children across the whole establishment to learn and achieve together.

Safeguarding

The report does not contain specific narrative commentary on safeguarding arrangements, though it notes that the nursery class was separately inspected by the Care Inspectorate within the past 18 months.
