Leaders have established high expectations for both academic and social development, supported by a carefully sequenced curriculum.

Strengths

• Staff support pupils’ emotional needs effectively, with pupils appreciating the care they receive and noting how “kind staff are”.
• The curriculum is “carefully thought out”, with leaders identifying key knowledge and vocabulary, ensuring pupils’ learning builds on earlier experiences.
• Phonics and early reading are prioritised, with staff checking learning precisely and providing extra practice so pupils “keep up with the planned programme”.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are identified quickly and receive effective support, enabling them to “achieve well”.
• Behaviour is managed through a clear policy where pupils are rewarded for positive conduct, resulting in regular attendance and good attitudes.

Areas to improve

• The curriculum is “not fully embedded in all subjects”, meaning some pupils do not develop a secure understanding of essential knowledge; teachers need greater subject knowledge to ensure effective teaching across all areas.
• Communication with parents requires improvement, as some, including those of pupils with SEND, do not feel engagement is effective, leading to mixed views about the school.
