Killyman Primary School

Overview

The inspection occurred during industrial action where teachers did not cooperate with the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI). Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Year 6 and 7 children “engaged confidently in discussion” and spoke positively about their learning.
• Pupils articulated the “good progress they are making across the curriculum.”
• Children value “wider learning experiences,” including educational visits and working with peers from other schools.
• Pupils reflected maturely on skills developed as ‘buddies’ and through membership of eco- and school councils.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to take mitigating action regarding health and safety, as there is “no controlled access to the two mobile classrooms.”
• The ETI was unable to evaluate outcomes, provision, or leadership due to the lack of cooperation, preventing a full assessment of these areas.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
