Knights Templar Community Church School & Nursery

Overview

Knights Templar Community Church School & Nursery is described as a “welcoming and inclusive school” where pupils are “happy and safe.” Leaders have successfully addressed previous shortcomings, resulting in an “ambitious and varied curriculum” that ensures all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, achieve well.

Strengths

• Children in early years “make a strong start” through established routines and “planned adult activities.”
• The provision for pupils with SEND is a “considerable strength,” with staff confidently supporting a wide range of needs.
• Staff teach phonics with “precision and consistency,” ensuring most older pupils read with “accuracy and independence.”
• Pupils demonstrate high standards of behaviour, acting as “role models” and showing “respect, kindness and inclusivity.”
• The personal development programme is a strength, helping pupils appreciate “different beliefs and cultures” and develop independence.

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, assessment is not yet effective enough to help teachers “rectify misconceptions quickly and effectively.”
• The school must ensure learning activities in non-core subjects “match the aims of the curriculum” so all pupils build knowledge consistently.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
