Knockahollet Primary School

Overview

This Sustaining Improvement Inspection was conducted in January 2019, following a previous evaluation in 2015 that identified a "high level of capacity for sustained improvement." However, the inspection was severely limited because teaching staff engaged in industrial action and refused to co-operate with inspectors, preventing a full assessment of educational quality. Consequently, the ETI states it is "unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children."

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils reported enjoying participation in the ‘Mastermind Competition’, after-school clubs, and charity fundraising activities.
• The principal co-operated with the inspection team regarding safeguarding responsibilities.
• Children reported that they "feel safe" and know how to stay safe online.
• The school participates in a "very comprehensive Shared Education partnership" with five local primary schools.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to "construct and consult on an Intimate Care Policy and an Attendance Policy."
• The ETI was unable to evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s capacity for self-evaluation due to staff non-co-operation.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements "reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education," though the ETI was "unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements" due to the industrial action.
