LAKESIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Overview

Lakeside Primary School is described as a “safe, happy and nurturing learning environment” where pupils generally make “good progress from their starting points.” The report highlights that most pupils develop into “articulate, questioning young people” with a strong sense of community, supported by a broad range of pupil voice groups that allow them to contribute meaningfully to school life.

Strengths

• Pupils benefit from an “interesting range of experiences across the curriculum,” with a strong emphasis on cultivating literacy, numeracy, well-being, and creative skills.
• Effective provision for pupils with additional learning needs, both in mainstream classes and the Wellbeing Class, helps them engage in “purposeful learning experiences.”
• Senior leaders demonstrate “high expectations” and have developed a “useful approach to self-evaluation” to identify areas for improvement.
• Pupils feel “listened to by teachers and leaders” and play an important role in specific projects and school self-evaluation.

Areas to improve

• The current provision for Welsh does not enable pupils to make “steady, year-on-year progress in developing their Welsh language skills.”
• Senior leaders do not involve other staff in self-evaluation and improvement processes “well enough,” meaning staff lack a clear understanding of their impact on whole-school provision.
