Leadhill Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that most evaluations regarding outcomes, provision, and leadership could not be fully completed due to this lack of cooperation.

Strengths

• Parents and staff provided “highly positive” and “wholly positive” responses to questionnaires, citing “hardworking, enthusiastic, approachable staff.”
• A small number of children observed displayed a “positive attitude to, and enjoyment of” mathematical learning opportunities.
• More able children in year 7 demonstrated a “very good understanding of key concepts” and employed a “wide range of mathematical strategies.”
• The school development plan is “informed by meaningful consultation with stakeholders.”
• Governors are “well-informed about the life and work of the school” and contribute effectively to management.

Areas to improve

• Risk assessments must be carried out on “two disused mobile classrooms that are in a state of extreme disrepair.”
• A risk assessment is required for the “main access approach to the school.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
