Limavady High School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure the quality of education” and could not fully evaluate provision, leadership, or outcomes. Despite these limitations, the report notes positive pupil attitudes and strong governance support.

Strengths

• Pupils are described as “courteous and articulate” with a “positive disposition to school life.”
• The acting senior leadership team has a “strong collegial ethos” and a “clear, shared vision for school improvement.”
• Governors are “committed to the life and the work of the school” and are “highly supportive” of leadership.
• Pupils entitled to free school meals have performed “consistently well above corresponding NI average” in GCSEs.
• Arrangements for identifying pupils requiring additional support are “promptly identified and planned for.”

Areas to improve

• Whole-school action plans “require more specific targets” to support monitoring and evaluation of progress.
• Governors need to “develop further their capacity to provide appropriate accountability and challenge” regarding pupil outcomes.
• The learning experiences and outcomes of pupils requiring additional support “require more rigorous monitoring and evaluation.”

Safeguarding

The report states that “satisfactory arrangements are in place for safeguarding learners” and pupils feel “safe and secure,” though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
