Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly limited because staff participated in industrial action and refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI could not fully evaluate the quality of education or assure stakeholders of the standards provided. The school is designated as a high priority for future inspection with no further notice.

Strengths

• Year 6 pupils spoke positively about their learning, particularly enjoying "educational trips" and "ICT learning with children from another school" through a shared education partnership.
• Children reported enthusiasm for reading, including "the classics," and enjoyment of a "new online resource for learning in mathematics."
• Pupils described the school as "very friendly" and noted that "all of the staff are kind to them and help them in their work."
• Students spoke knowledgeably about their involvement in the School Council and their role in "creating the classroom rules each year."

Areas to improve

• The report states the ETI was "unable to evaluate fully" the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s capacity for improvement due to non-cooperation.
• The unsuitability of the staffroom being used as a classroom for younger children is being reviewed by the school and the Education Authority.

Safeguarding

The report notes that safeguarding arrangements "reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education" and children feel safe, but the ETI was "unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements" due to the industrial action.
