Mount St Catherine's Primary School

Overview

The inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure... of the quality of education being provided” and could not fully evaluate outcomes, provision, or leadership.

Strengths

• Parents and staff expressed “high levels of satisfaction” with the school’s “inclusive, welcoming ethos”.
• Children met by inspectors were “considerate, welcoming and respectful” and showed a “high level of interest in and enjoyment of reading”.
• Provision for special educational needs is “focused on the holistic development of the children in an inclusive and caring environment”.
• The school’s “processes for self-evaluation leading to improvement are well developed” and governors have an “excellent strategic overview”.
• The historic building is “maintained to an excellent standard”.

Areas to improve

• The report does not list specific areas for improvement because the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully” the quality of education due to non-cooperation.
• Access arrangements for the school grounds would be “enhanced further with controlled access at the front and rear gates”.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
