Lisnagelvin Primary School

Overview

The inspection occurred during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure” parents of the quality of education provided. The report relies on limited evidence, such as internal data and meetings with a small group of pupils, rather than full classroom observations.

Strengths

• Internal data indicates a “majority of the children” achieve as expected in English and mathematics.
• Year 6 pupils were “courteous, welcoming” and spoke positively about their enjoyment of learning and extra-curricular activities.
• The school assembly demonstrated “excellent” standards in music and public speaking.
• Governors possess a “very good range of complementary skills” and are actively involved in the school’s life.
• Parents and staff who responded to questionnaires reported “good levels of satisfaction” with the school.

Areas to improve

• The school development plan requires “more specific measurable targets” to assess the impact of improvement actions.
• The school has identified the need to “revise the taught pastoral and preventative education programme.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and children feel safe, but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully” the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
