London East Academy

Overview

London East Academy is an independent school where pupils are “happy and proud to attend.” The report highlights that pupils’ behaviour is “exceptional” and they are “extremely well prepared for life in modern Britain.” Leaders ensure the school meets independent school standards, with staff described as “highly ambitious” for pupils’ academic achievement.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “exceptional” behaviour, concentrating well and helping each other readily.
• The curriculum is “broad” and well-planned in most subjects, with clear mapping of key knowledge.
• Pupils are “extremely well prepared” for future careers and life in modern Britain through PSHE and enrichment activities.
• Staff provide effective support, including one-to-one reading help and adaptive teaching for all pupils.
• Leaders hold themselves to account, ensuring compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and independent school standards.

Areas to improve

• In a “small number of subjects,” leaders have not precisely identified the important knowledge pupils should know and remember.
• Teaching in these areas does not routinely build on prior learning, meaning pupils are “not as well prepared for future learning.”
• The school must ensure staff know the key content sequence and that teaching “routinely revisits” important knowledge before moving on.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
