Londonderry Primary School

Overview

The inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report notes that “no performance level available” for key areas, and the school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Year six children “spoke confidently and enthusiastically” about their learning, particularly enjoying mathematics and reading.
• Pupils expressed appreciation for opportunities to be creative, solve problems, and investigate the world around them.
• Children valued the “wide range of sporting and cultural extra-curricular activities available to them.”
• The school holds external awards, including the Eco-Schools Green Flag, and participates in shared education partnerships.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to “review the drugs policy to be in line with all the other updated policies.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and that children feel safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
