Marston Moreteyne VC School

Overview

The inspection found that the school provides a high-quality education where pupils are “kind and respectful” and “feel safe.” Leaders have constructed an “ambitious curriculum” that prepares pupils well for middle school, with most making good progress. The school is described as “calm and orderly,” with effective support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

Strengths

• Pupils are “keen to learn” and appreciate that teachers “make learning fun and interesting.”
• The curriculum is clearly structured, ensuring pupils “build on previous learning” and develop independence.
• Phonics teaching is effective, helping pupils become “fluent and confident readers.”
• Pupils with SEND have their needs “identified accurately” and are supported to access the curriculum.
• Pupils have meaningful responsibilities, such as “sport ambassadors” and “eco-councillors,” which broaden their experiences.

Areas to improve

• In some subjects, teachers do not check pupils’ understanding as carefully, leaving them “less secure in their understanding” of key knowledge.
• There are inconsistencies in how policies and procedures are implemented across the two school sites, meaning some pupils have a “different experience to most others.”

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
