Meadowlane Primary School

Overview

Meadowlane Primary School is described as a “welcoming community with a strong caring ethos” where most pupils make “good progress” and achieve well by the end of key stage 2. While leadership is “strong and effective” and wellbeing is rated “Good”, teaching and learning experiences are judged “Adequate and needs improvement” due to inconsistent challenge and feedback.

Strengths

• Most pupils demonstrate “positive attitudes” and “behave very well”, feeling safe and supported by staff.
• The headteacher provides “strong and effective leadership” with a “clear vision” for strategic development.
• Vulnerable pupils and those with additional needs make “good progress from their starting points” thanks to targeted support.
• Teachers build “strong working relationships” with pupils and use questioning to develop thinking effectively.
• Good relationships with parents and partners contribute purposefully to pupil support and engagement.

Areas to improve

• Ensure teaching provides a “good level of challenge for all pupils, particularly the more able”.
• Raise standards of pupils’ writing, “particularly in key stage 2”, where extended writing is not always detailed enough.
• Improve the quality of teachers’ marking and feedback to help pupils understand how to improve their work.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern”.
