Trowbridge Primary

Overview

Trowbridge Primary is described as a "warm and welcoming school" where pupils are happy and behaviour is good. However, frequent absence and lateness mean many pupils miss out on "important learning time," and some become less independent due to excessive staff support.

Strengths

• The school’s "ethos of care and support permeates all it does," fostering positive relationships between pupils and staff.
• Pupils make "solid progress from their varied starting points" and benefit from staff who know them well and listen to their suggestions.
• Leaders ensure a "strong emphasis on equality and inclusion," helping pupils with additional learning needs feel safe and keen to learn.
• Pupils are aware of their rights, understand fairness, and benefit from a "wide range of after school clubs."

Areas to improve

• Leaders must "sharpen monitoring and evaluation processes to focus on improving pupil outcomes."
• Teachers need to strengthen feedback so pupils know "what to do to improve" and ensure teaching challenges all pupils to develop independence.
• The school must address high absence rates and "improve standards for older pupils in Welsh."

Safeguarding

The report states that leaders and staff work hard to ensure pupil well-being is good, resulting in pupils feeling safe and proud to attend.
