Medina House School

Overview

Medina House School continues to be a good school, described as a "happy place to be" where pupils are "safe and well cared for." Leaders have strengthened the quality of education through a broad, personalised curriculum that respects each pupil as a "unique individual."

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate "kind attitudes to one another" and are enthusiastic about inclusive play and "imaginative games."
• Staff skilfully use pupils’ "preferences and special interests" to motivate learning, resulting in "great progress towards their individual goals."
• New leaders have implemented a "broad curriculum" with personalised provision for health and care needs, helping new pupils settle quickly.
• Pupils benefit from enriching experiences, including "Forest School sessions," swimming, and community contributions like displaying art in local exhibitions.
• Attendance is high because pupils "love coming to school," and lessons are described by many as "fun" and "amazing."

Areas to improve

• The school must embed its recent work on teaching phonics and early reading to ensure all pupils receive "precise and tailored support."
• The school should continue to develop staff’s "specialist knowledge and skills" to meet the diverse needs of pupils, particularly regarding communication symbols and fine motor skills.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
