Mullavilly Primary School

Overview

The inspection was significantly limited by industrial action, with most staff refusing to cooperate. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure... of the quality of education” and could not evaluate key areas such as numeracy, curriculum quality, or leadership effectiveness.

Strengths

• Parents report the school is “well thought of in the community” and children benefit from “a range of after-school activities.”
• Children feel their “ideas are valued” and know staff are there to “support their learning.”
• Year 7 children display a “positive attitude to, and enjoyment of, mathematics” and show “very good understanding of key concepts.”
• Governors “contribute effectively to the management of the school” by carrying out their “challenge and support roles.”
• A new school development plan is underway, informed by “meaningful consultation with stakeholders.”

Areas to improve

• The board of governors and employing authority must review the “location of the year 3 class in the assembly hall.”
• The fence enclosing the playground requires review to “ensure it provides a secure play area for the children.”

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
