My Life Learning

Overview

The inspection judged the provider’s overall effectiveness as ‘Inadequate’, citing that the ‘quality of education is uninspiring’ and the curriculum is ‘unambitious’. Although learners ‘enjoy coming to college’ and feel supported, they ‘do not develop the substantial new knowledge, skills and behaviours of which they are capable’.

Strengths

• Learners ‘feel supported and cared for by their tutors and learning support assistants’.
• Students are ‘respectful of one another’ and ‘aware of the need to respect individual differences’.
• Attendance is described as ‘high’.
• The provider offers ‘a range of enrichment activities, such as creative crafts, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and football’.
• Governors are ‘suitably experienced in the further education and SEND sectors’.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must ‘put in place effective safeguarding arrangements’ urgently, including robust risk assessments and proper referral processes.
• The curriculum requires ‘clear rationale, coherent planning, and logical sequencing that is tailored to meet individual needs’.
• The provider must ‘establish high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance’ and ensure ‘all learners have equal access to enrichment activities’.

Safeguarding

The report states that ‘the arrangements for safeguarding are not effective’, noting that leaders failed to follow up concerns appropriately and did not implement robust risk assessments for work placements.
